Position Overview:
St. Thomas University seeks dedicated and experienced adjunct Online Nursing Faculty to teach in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Program. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, interactive online education to graduate nursing students, helping them develop the necessary skills and knowledge for advanced psychiatric mental health practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Course Instruction: Facilitate online courses, including lectures, discussions, and clinical content within the PMHNP curriculum. Engage students in asynchronous discussions at least four days weekly and evaluate participation.
Curriculum Development: Participate in ongoing curriculum development, review, and revision to align with current psychiatric mental health nursing trends and certification standards.
Student Engagement: Offer consistent feedback and support to students, maintaining a flexible approach to teaching that meets the needs of a diverse student population.
Assessment: Design and grade assignments, quizzes, and exams to assess students’ academic progress and clinical competency.
Professional Development: Stay current with psychiatric mental health practices and nursing education through participation in professional development activities, contributing to scholarship and research.
Technology Use: Utilize learning management systems (e.g. Canvas) and other online tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams) for teaching and facilitating student interaction.
Student Support: Provide timely responses to student inquiries and offer academic advising as needed.
Compliance & Recordkeeping: Ensure compliance with institutional policies and timely submission of grades, attendance, and other required documentation.
Required Qualifications:
Educational Background:
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or PhD in Nursing.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
Certification:
National certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
Active, unencumbered RN and APRN licenses in the state of residence, with compact licensure preferred.
Experience:
Two (2) years or more of clinical experience as a PMHNP.
Online teaching experience, particularly at graduate level, is preferred.
Skills:
Strong communication, motivational, and instructional skills for engaging a diverse, non-traditional student body.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, learning management systems, and online conferencing tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with curriculum design and clinical placement coordination.
Involvement in research or scholarship related to psychiatric mental health nursing.
Knowledge of accreditation standards (CCNE, AACN) and experience with accreditation preparation.
